FEBRUARY 20, 2019 – RCMP responds but withholds the number of Protection of Life Carry Permits issued advising that release of that number ‘could reasonably be expected to threaten the safety of individuals’.
MARCH 22, 2019 – Filed a complaint with the Information Commissioner of Canada about the exemption used by the RCMP to withhold the number of ATCs issued for Protection of Life.
MAY 2, 2019 – Received the RCMP reply dated April 25, 2019 with the current number of ATCs issued for Protection of Life = ONE.

NOTE: The number of ATCs issued for Self-Protection from human threats withheld under section 17 of the Access to Information Act: “The head of a government institution may refuse to disclose any record requested under this Act that contains information the disclosure of which could reasonably be expected to threaten the safety of individuals.” A complaint will be filed with the Information Commissioner challenging this exemption. QUESTION: How can releasing a number threaten anyone’s safety?

NEWS RELEASE OTTAWA – Canadian Shooting Sports Association President, Steve Torino, and Executive Director, Tony Bernardo, testified before the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence in a marathon session last evening that brought organizations and individuals on both sides of the gun debate together in the new Senate of Canada Building to examine Bill C-71, An Act to amend certain Acts and Regulations in relation to firearms. Messrs. Torino and Bernardo outlined several significant problems with Bill C-71 including the change to lifetime background checks; changes to the licence verification process; requirements for businesses to keep detailed recordings of all firearm transactions; changes to the electronic conditions of Authorizations to Transport (ATTs); and the removal of the Governor-in-Council to declare a firearm to be non-restricted.
