Canadians are passionately attached to their rights. Free speech, freedom of association, free and fair elections … and the right to bear arms. Lately that last one has been portrayed as somehow unCanadian, even sneered at as distinctly American. But actually it’s a fundamental part of our heritage.

Any rational person would believe mandatory registration of individuals who have not committed a crime would violate their Charter Rights and Freedoms. That’s reasonable and rational. Apparently, it’s also very un-Canadian. In Canada, criminals have rights. Law-abiding citizens? Not so much.
