Brian Sauvé on Liberal Government's Gun Confiscation Compensation

Brian Sauvé, President of the National Police Federation, was interviewed by Todd MacKay of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation about the Gun Confiscation Compensation proposed by the Liberal Government.

“We’re not saying that we support firearm ownership. What we’re saying is we support fair, transparent, evidence-driven decisions by government that are going to really address a problem in society.”

“And that’s the root behind this position paper. It’s really to shine a spotlight on gun violence in Canada and where do those guns come from?

“And should we be devoting our tax dollars through the government to perhaps stem the tide of where those guns are coming from, perhaps increase enforcement, before we go down the regulation process to impact everyday Canadians that have gone through all the regulatory steps to own and possess firearms?”

Sorry Brian, you lost me right there. You sound just like another Marxist I’ve heard of. Thanks for your non-support.

I think it is very unfair of our present government to think taking our guns away is going to change anything the criminals are doing. They will come for all the guns if this first step is not stopped right in it’s tracks.

Totally agree. Personally I would say very unfair (bordering on criminal: Fraud affecting Public Market and theft by person holding POA with proceeds) to pretend it’s pressing for Public safety (the only way an injustice like this can ever be justified) when they have repeatedly stated and acknowledged that we are not a risk to public safety, Now all of a sudden, the data that proves we are more law abiding than Mother Theresa is being purposefully hidden and ignored, and the definitions of crime gun changed quietly to include found guns and non violent offenses to make it appear… Read more »

I have listened to this interview and have read the National Police Federations policy statement in the last few weeks and believe that they are taking a stand on the side of legal law abiding gun owning citizens by stating that the government is misguided and directing their energy and funds towards the wrong people. The federation is stating that the government should be funding programs that deal with the criminal element and social elements that lead to criminal activities in our society. This is the first time that I’ve seen or heard a large group or police organization stand… Read more »

Actually the vast majority of rank and file officers will tell you that current firearm legislation does virtually nothing to reduce criminal misuse of firearms. I also recall that periodically various police unions have taken the same position (specifically I recall Craig Bromell of the Toronto Police Union calling the long gun registry “a farce”). The problem is that most police support for firearm legislation comes from the police chiefs who are not the ones on the streets confronting the criminals but are the ones who get in front of the news cameras. In fact, individual officers who publicly voice… Read more »

Brian Sauve, my Dad was taken prisoner by the German’s and his brother, my Uncle landed on Juno Beach, they both owned firearms before and after the war.You say you don’t support firearm ownership. RCMP can’t wait to seize our property. If law biding citizen’s can’t have them then neither should your members when on the job!!!

BP1, sir I thank your family for their sacrifice and service to peace and freedom. My great Uncle fought in WW2 and my grandad fled to Canada to escape Nazi tyranny in Holland. I (and many historians) believe (and have evidence that) participation in gun culture (which generally stands for safety, law abiding behavior and community building) – essentially responsible training, ownership and use of small arms is (our culture, heritage and right) and actually possession of these firearms is what ensures our (and other free nations) ongoing safety from tyranny, a safeguard against atrocities like the Nazi’s committed. As… Read more »

Christine Generoux, you get the drift!!! When most gun owners comment on forums like this, they mistakenly complain about the ( my definition) Left (socialists, communists, globalists)wanting to take our firearms instead of going after the real criminals and gang bangers.
The Trudeau’s of this world don’t care about fighting crime. They only want to take our guns because it will then be easier to completely take away what freedoms we still have left, which is far fewer now than we had at the end of WW 2. It’s the 1st thing they do when they seize power. Read history.
