Pierre Poilievre: Canada’s Political Rock Star rocks CSSA’s “Stick to your Guns” Dinner
MAY 3, 2022
“I will respect you.”
After years of non-stop harassment by the Liberal Party, MP and Conservative leadership candidate Pierre Poilievre told a packed audience at CSSA’s annual “Stick To Your Guns” dinner that he will, once elected Prime Minister, implement simplified classification, do a plain-language rewrite of the Firearms Act and would respect the rights and freedoms of Canada’s firearms owners.
He also said he would add the Enforced Firearm Prohibition Order to the Criminal Code, a sure-fire method of reducing gang-fuelled gun crime on our city streets. This is great news, as the federal government under both parties has ignored the complete failure of Canada’s existing Firearm Prohibition Order system.
On Saturday evening, Pierre Poilievre told a packed audience at CSSA’s annual Stick To Your Guns Dinner that he will, once elected Prime Minister, implement the Simplified Classification System, do a plain-language rewrite of the Firearms Act, and add the Enforced Firearm Prohibition Order to the Criminal Code.
This is great news, as the federal government under both parties has ignored the complete failure of Canada’s existing Firearm Prohibition Order system.
On the firearms file, Pierre Poilievre stands firm with firearms owners.
“A Poilievre government will end the attacks on our lawful, licensed, vetted hunters and farmers.”[i]
“Trudeau’s going to spend over a billion dollars targeting our law-abiding hunters and farmers, right? Meanwhile, he’s introduced legislation to reduce criminal penalties for gun crimes, like smuggling and extortion. This is insane. 82% of all the guns used in crime in downtown Toronto do not come from law-abiding people. They are smuggled in from the United States of America.”
But of much greater importance to most Canadians, Pierre Poilievre’s primary commitment is to make Canada the freest nation on earth.[ii]
“Forty years after Pierre Elliott Trudeau brought home the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, his son Justin is leading a relentless attack against its principles. The Prime Minister has introduced legislation that attacks section 2(b) of the Charter, which is supposed to guarantee free expression for Canadians.
“Trudeau’s Bill C-11 would give government bureaucrats the power to manipulate social media algorithms, so that only state-approved content is visible to Canadian readers and viewers. And recently, the Prime Minister empowered police to seize the bank accounts of political opponents.”[iii]
“Trudeau’s unscientific mandates are ruining people’s lives. If I become Prime Minister, I will put an end to these mandates once and for all and give Canadians back control over their own personal health decisions.”[iv]
Poilievre’s next priority is to get the nation’s financial house in order.
“The more Liberals spend, the more things cost. That is JustinFlation,” said Poilievre. “I will end it, by restoring central bank independence, mandating an independent audit of all the money printing, and stopping the risky Central Bank Digital Currency.”[v]
Prices at Canada’s gas pumps are some of the highest in the world, another issue Poilievre would bring to an end.
“Justin Trudeau supports oil — as long as it is foreign oil. Every time he kills a Canadian energy project, foreign dictators like Putin do a victory dance, because they get to dominate the world market,” said Poilievre. “We need to get Canadian oil and gas to market, and that starts with inviting projects unfairly blocked by this government to re-apply for approval.”

2021 Annual Hate Crime Statistical Report Findings
May 2, 2022 via TPS Email
The Toronto Police Service presented its Annual Hate Crime Statistical Report at the Toronto Police Services Board meeting today, outlining an increase in hate crime reporting for 2021.
The Service recorded 257 hate-motivated occurrences in 2021, which is a 22 per cent increase from the 210 hate-motivated occurrences reported in 2020. Overall, the number of occurrences in 2021 is higher than the ten-year average of 162 occurrences. In 2021, the global pandemic and geopolitical events are believed to be key contributing factors to the increase in hate crime reporting.
Religion, ethnic or national origin and race were the predominant motivating factors for hate crimes in 2021, representing 186 of the total 257 occurrences. East and Southeast Asian communities were the most victimized community groups in this category.
Of note in 2021:
- The Jewish community and the Black community were the predominant victim groups for mischief related occurrences
- The East and Southeast Asian communities, followed by the Black community, were the predominant victim groups for assaults
- The Black and LGBTQ2S+ community were the predominant victim group for uttering threat occurrences
“Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world and the Service is proud to serve such diverse communities. Year over year we are seeing an increase in hate motivated crimes in Toronto and we have taken steps to increase the capacity of our dedicated Hate Crime Unit and expand our community outreach efforts to address community concerns directly. Hate crimes victimize not only the person, but also the communities they identify with and the negative effects can be long-lasting,” said Chief of Police James Ramer. “We know hate crimes often go unreported and we are committed to working alongside our community partners to break down barriers and develop relationships so that more people will feel comfortable coming forward to report these crimes.”
Hate crimes are a Service priority and we are committed to combatting hate by investigating these offences, providing education and delivering training specific to understanding and reporting hate crimes. This is demonstrated through the 2022 budget, which will allow us to redeploy resources to our Hate Crime Unit (HCU) to help prevent hate crimes and increase investigative capacity in this critical area. This expansion will provide two additional positions specifically dedicated to hate crime education, prevention and investigations.
