As a geologist I first flew in a helicopter in 1956. I ALWAYS have my 44 Magnum pistol ( in the early days it was a 357 Magnum) with me because of bears. In my 64 years of doing geological work I have had to fire a shot or two at various bears that started to become aggressive to me. I also have had to shoot and kill SIX bears that were actually predating on me. If a bear approaches within 40 to 20 feet of me (depending on how fast he is approaching) he is dead. I understand that safety is first. For protection of yourself and others in the wilderness. I agree that you should have the right to carry a handgun.
On June 20th I go to court to set a date for the hearing of my appeal of the Notice of Refusal of an Authorization To Carry (ATC). I fly helicopter in bear territory for 12 weeks in the mountains carrying hunters and their animal parts. So I want to put my S&W460XVR 5″ pistol in my survival kit in the helicopter.
