DECEMBER 3, 2017 – Public Safety Canada responded: “A thorough search was conducted and Public Safety Canada was unable to locate any records responding to your request. Agencies report their inventory to the RCMP which maintains the relevant database. Public Safety Canada does not collect or maintain statistics from this database.”

APRIL 11, 2018 – RCMP responded: “Based on the information provided, a search for records was conducted with the Canadian Fire Arms Program.  Unfortunately, we were unable to locate records which respond to this request. Section 117.07 of the Criminal Code sets out various exemptions to the Firearms Act and specifies who qualifies for these exemptions. As the Criminal Code falls under the purview of the Department of Justice, it is suggested that this ATIP request be sent to the Department of Justice.  Once the Departments and Agencies have been identified, they will each need to be contacted individually to obtain the answers to the remaining questions, as the RCMP does not own any of this information.”
